THE SPRINT YEARS - 2005 |
The 2005 season dawned as if it was going to be another good year in
the 7M. Todd approached the season with a different and exciting plan,
desiring to break away from the local weekly Williams Grove and Port
Royal schedule. The plan was to take a weekend a month off while also
traveling a bit with the team throughout the year. But by late April
it was apparent that the agreement that Todd had with the car owner was
not going to be honored. A man of integrity, Todd walked away from the
7M based on pride and principal alone.

During his down time during the year, Todd played a bit, experimenting
with his first seat time in a late model stock car and in a 358 sprint.
Both of these rides took place at Selinsgrove Speedway. The late model
seat was owned by the Lyons while New Jersey businessman Guy Howie gave
Todd a good seat for the Selinsgrove 358 Sprint Open in August.

Todd then signed on for what appeared to be a
promising stint in the J & M Motorsports No. 55 in late May. But
after an arduous amount of work had been invested in the team and after
producing some promising results in just nine appearances in the car,
Todd and the car owners parted ways in late July. However some new friends
were made during the 55 stint in the form of sponsors Les and Nathan
Lyons of Mifflinburg.

Not one to give up and proud of what he had endured
and accomplished, Todd formed a new team for the end of the season thanks
to the Lyons. With the loan of a truck and trailer from 358 racer Scott
Tate of Middleburg, the L. R. Lyons & Son Transportation/Lyons Auto
and Truck Service Center No. 4 hit the track for a six-race stint on September
9 at Port Royal Speedway. After the last checkered flag had fallen on what
turned out to be an abbreviated season, Todd entered sprint competition
on 25 nights in 2005, competing in 23 feature events. There were four top-five
finishes and eight top-tens.
